Worked example

A crew of five on Housecall Pro Essentials, billed monthly, pays $189 USD before add-ons. Add CSR AI and Websites and the total is whatever sales quotes. On Contruva the same crew pays $249.99 CAD with both included, and a sixth or seventh person costs nothing extra.

Answering calls with AI

Missed calls are where most trades businesses lose the most work, so this is worth a closer look. Our guide to speed to lead explains why the first contractor to answer usually wins.

Housecall Pro markets CSR AI as answering calls and booking jobs 24/7. It’s an add-on, and the pricing page doesn’t show what it costs. Housecall Pro also lists “AI team members” as included in every plan, which its site describes as automating work, but call answering is the paid CSR AI.

Contruva’s AI receptionist is part of the plan. It answers in your business name with the voice you pick, 24/7 or only after hours, books real open crew slots, transfers urgent calls to you and texts every caller a confirmation. Every call lands in your inbox with a transcript and summary. It also replies to texts and Facebook and Instagram messages.

Whichever you choose, set it up the same way: decide which hours it answers, which calls get transferred to your cell (a burst pipe, a no-heat call in January), and what it should never promise, like a price over the phone. Then test it yourself from a number it doesn’t know, at 9 p.m. on a Sunday, because that’s when the calls you’re losing actually come in.

Script it answers for you

“Thanks for calling Northline Plumbing. Is this about a repair or a new install? I have Thursday at 10:00 or Friday at 2:00 for a visit. Which works better?”

Where Housecall Pro wins

There are good reasons to pick Housecall Pro, and you should know them.

  • Consumer financing. Listed on every plan. If you sell big-ticket installs like furnaces or water heaters, financing closes jobs.
  • Spanish. The app is available in English and Spanish, with Spanish-speaking support per its FAQ.
  • Routing and GPS. Route planning and employee GPS from Essentials, route optimization on Max. Good for route-based work like cleaning or pest control.
  • Integrations. QuickBooks Online sync from Essentials; Zapier and an open API on Max.
  • Low entry price and longer trial. $59 USD/month on annual Basic, and a 14-day trial against Contruva’s 7 days.

Where Contruva wins

  • You know the price up front. One published number, no add-ons to request quotes for.
  • No seat math. Hire your sixth, ninth or fifteenth person without a plan change.
  • Getting found is included. An AI-built website that adds service and area pages every week, review requests after every job, and social posts, ads and newsletters made from your job photos.
  • An AI that does the work. Text Contruva AI to follow up on quotes, chase invoices or post a finished job, and approve before anything reaches a customer.
  • Priced in Canadian dollars by a Canadian company, if that’s where you do business.

Contruva works across trades, from plumbing and electrical to roofing and landscaping.

What reviewers say about Housecall Pro

Housecall Pro has a large base of reviews on sites like Capterra, and most are positive about scheduling, invoicing and the mobile app. The recurring complaints we saw in search results were about cost as a business grows: add-ons on top of the plan price and steep jumps once a team passes five users. Some reviewers also mention lag when managing many jobs at once, and opinions on support are mixed. None of that makes it a bad product. It means you should price your real setup, with your real crew size, before committing.

Moving from Housecall Pro to Contruva

Since Housecall Pro has no long-term contract, switching is mostly about timing and data. Here’s a simple order of operations.

  • Export customers and your price book. Your services and prices become the catalog Contruva uses to build quotes.
  • Finish open invoices where they started. Customers shouldn’t get two bills from two systems.
  • Rebook recurring work. Maintenance visits and service plans go onto the new calendar.
  • Connect Stripe and send a test invoice to yourself before you send one to a customer.
  • Switch the phones last. Turn on the receptionist once the calendar is right, so it books real open slots.
  • Time the cancellation to your billing date. On annual billing especially, check when your current period ends.

Tell the Contruva team what you use today and they’ll help you work out which tools and data can move into the platform.

How to decide in a week

Don’t decide from a feature grid. Run a real week of work through the tool you’re leaning towards and measure it.

Day 1
Price it honestly.

Ask Housecall Pro for a written quote with every add-on you need. Write down Contruva’s $249.99 CAD next to it.

Day 2
Set up the phones.

Turn on AI call answering and call your own number after hours. Did it book you?

Day 3
Send three real quotes.

Time how long each one takes, and see what follow-up happens without you.

Day 5
Run the crew.

Book two jobs, have the crew clock in and add photos, then invoice.

Day 7
Count the results.

Calls answered, quotes followed up, hours saved. Pick the one that won.

Ask us anything

Is Contruva cheaper than Housecall Pro?

Housecall Pro Basic is cheaper for one user who doesn’t need add-ons. For a crew that wants AI call answering and a website, Contruva’s $249.99 CAD flat price often comes in lower, since Housecall Pro sells those as add-ons priced on request.

How much is Housecall Pro’s CSR AI?

Housecall Pro doesn’t publish a price for CSR AI on its pricing page (checked November 2026). You need to ask its sales team.

How many users does Housecall Pro include?

Basic includes 1 user, Essentials 5 and Max 8, with additional users on Max listed at $35 USD/month each.

Does Contruva offer consumer financing like Housecall Pro?

Consumer financing isn’t part of Contruva’s listed features. Contruva takes card payments and deposits through Stripe with no extra Contruva fee. If financing is essential, Housecall Pro lists it on every plan.

Can I try both for free?

Yes. Housecall Pro offers a 14-day trial of its Max plan and Contruva offers a 7-day trial of everything. Neither needs a credit card.
