The best electricalcontractor softwarefor 2026.

Seven tools electricians actually shortlist, what each one costs on its own pricing page, and which size of shop it suits. No made-up ratings.

The best electrical contractor software for most small and mid-size electrical shops is one that handles both service calls and project work: booking, quotes from a price book, permits and inspections on each job, change orders, progress billing and payment on site. Our shortlist is Contruva, Jobber, Housecall Pro, Tradify, Fergus, simPRO and, for large operations, ServiceTitan.

There’s no single winner. A two-truck residential shop and a 40-electrician commercial outfit need different tools, and most “best of” lists online are written by a vendor ranking itself first. We sell one of these too, so we’ve kept it honest: every price below comes from the company’s own pricing page, checked November 2026, and where a tool does something better than Contruva, we say so.

What do electrical contractors need from software?

Generic field service software is built around a plumber’s or cleaner’s day: one visit, one invoice. Electrical work is messier. A typical week mixes 90-minute service calls with multi-day jobs that run on permits and inspections. Here’s what to test in any free trial:

  • Triage on the phone. “The breaker keeps tripping” and “there’s a burning smell at the panel” are different calls. Whoever answers, person or software, needs to capture the problem and flag the urgent ones to you.
  • A price book for repeat jobs. EV charger installs, 100A to 200A panel upgrades, pot lights, surge protection, generator interlocks. If each one is a saved line with your labour and materials, a quote takes minutes instead of an evening.
  • Good-better-best options. Customers comparing EV charger quotes want to see the install with and without a load management device, or a panel upgrade versus a sub-panel. Optional line items they can tick win more of those jobs.
  • Permit and inspection steps on the job. Notification filed, rough-in inspected, final passed, with the permit number and photos. Rules differ by province and state, but nearly every electrical job has an inspection, and missing one costs a return trip.
  • Change orders from site. Open a wall, find knob-and-tube or an ungrounded circuit, and the scope just changed. You want the customer’s written approval before you pull more wire.
  • Progress billing. Deposit on approval, a payment after rough-in passes, balance at final. Service work gets invoiced and paid before you leave the driveway.
  • Crew access without your margins. Apprentices need their jobs, checklists and a clock-in, not your pricing.
  • Accounting sync. QuickBooks or Xero, so your bookkeeper isn’t retyping invoices.

Two things sit outside most job apps. Digital takeoff (counting devices and measuring runs off drawings) is its own category of estimating software, used for commercial bid work. And code references and load calculations live in dedicated electrical apps. Don’t expect a job management tool to replace either. 1. Contruva

Who it suits: owner-operators and small to mid-size electrical shops, mostly residential and light commercial, who lose work to missed calls and slow quotes.

Price: one plan, Contruva Pro, with everything included and no per-seat pricing. You can try it free for 7 days with no credit card. See Contruva pricing for the current price in your currency.

The AI receptionist answers every call in your business name, books routine work into real open slots and flags anything that sounds like a safety call straight to you. Quotes are built from your price book, with optional items, e-signature and a deposit on approval. Each job holds a checklist for permit, rough-in and final, with photos. The crew app and job costing give apprentices their jobs and a clock-in without your prices, and show you which job types actually make money. Invoices go out with card payments (through Stripe, with no extra Contruva fee), automatic reminders and progress billing, and sync to QuickBooks or Xero. It also builds your website and runs your marketing, and you can text Contruva AI to chase open quotes or overdue invoices.

What it doesn’t do: no GPS tracking or route optimization, no inventory or truck stock, no payroll, no digital takeoff or bid management for commercial tenders, no AIA-style billing, no public API, and no multi-location setup. If you run a stocked warehouse or bid off drawings, look at simPRO or pair Contruva with a takeoff tool.

  • ✓ No per-seat pricing as you add electricians
  • ✓ Call answering, website and marketing included
  • ✓ Change orders and progress invoices from site
  • ✕ No inventory, GPS or payroll
  • ✕ Not built for commercial bid work off drawings

2. Jobber

Who it suits: residential electrical service shops that want a widely used, well-supported job app.

Price (USD): Core is $49 a month with no commitment for one user. Connect starts at $139 (1 user) and Grow at $199 (1 user), rising with team size, and Plus starts at $499 for 5 users. Annual billing and 1-year commitments are cheaper. Extra users are $29 a month. Job costing starts on Grow and QuickBooks Online sync on Connect. Receptionist ($29), Pipeline ($49) and Marketing Suite ($99) are add-ons below Plus. 14-day free trial.

  • ✓ Mature app with a big user base
  • ✓ Clear published pricing
  • ✕ Job costing needs the Grow plan
  • ✕ Users and add-ons push the total up as you grow

Head to head: Contruva vs Jobber.

3. Housecall Pro

Who it suits: residential electrical service companies that want booking, dispatch and a price book.

Price (USD): Basic is $79 a month on monthly billing or $59 on annual (1 user), Essentials $189 or $149 (5 users), and Max $329 or $299 (8 users), with extra users at $35 a month on Max. Job costing and a price book appear on every plan; route optimization is on Max only. CSR AI, payroll, accounting and websites are listed as add-ons without published prices. 14-day trial, no credit card.

  • ✓ Job costing and price book on every plan
  • ✓ No long-term contract
  • ✕ Route optimization only on Max
  • ✕ Many extras are add-ons with no listed price

More in Contruva vs Housecall Pro.

4. Tradify

Who it suits: self-employed electricians and small crews who want quotes, jobs, timesheets and invoices without a big setup.

Price (USD): Lite $47, Pro $51 and Plus $61 per user per month, with custom pricing for bigger teams and a 14-day free trial. Accounting sync is on every plan; job costing, timesheets and recurring jobs start on Pro. An Instant Website add-on is $12 a month.

  • ✓ Easy to learn
  • ✓ Xero and QuickBooks sync on every plan
  • ✕ Per-user pricing adds up with apprentices
  • ✕ No built-in call answering or marketing

See our Tradify alternatives if you’ve outgrown it.

5. Fergus

Who it suits: small electrical and plumbing crews who like the New Zealand trades-app style Tradify made popular.

Price: Basic from $53 a month and Professional from $75, with Enterprise (10+ staff) by quote. Timesheet users are from $26 a month and contractor users $4 per user per day. The page shows “$” without naming a currency, so confirm yours. Professional adds checklists, forms, purchase orders, GPS tracking, advanced reporting and phone support; Basic is email and chat support only. Xero, QuickBooks and MYOB integration is on both plans. 14-day trial, no credit card.

  • ✓ Purchase orders and forms on Professional
  • ✓ Accounting integration on both plans
  • ✕ Checklists and phone support need Professional
  • ✕ Extra cost per timesheet user

6. simPRO

Who it suits: commercial and industrial electrical contractors with project managers, stocked warehouses and multi-stage project billing.

Price: not published; simPRO quotes each customer. It’s a heavier system than the others here, and it’s one of the few that electrical comparison lists credit with takeoffs and bid templates for commercial work. If you run stock across trucks and a warehouse, ask about inventory in the demo. If you’re a five-person residential shop, it’s likely more system than you need.

  • ✓ Built for project-heavy commercial work
  • ✓ Takeoffs and bid templates for commercial work
  • ✕ No published pricing
  • ✕ Longer setup than a small-shop app

7. ServiceTitan

Who it suits: large residential electrical companies with many trucks, a dispatcher, a call centre and an office team.

Price: not published. ServiceTitan’s pricing page shows Starter, Essentials and The Works with a “Request Pricing” button, and describes its pricing as per technician. Its reporting, memberships and dispatch tools are strong for that size of business. Our ServiceTitan pricing breakdown covers what to ask in a demo.

  • ✓ Deep reporting and dispatch for big teams
  • ✕ No published pricing
  • ✕ Built for shops much larger than most electricians run

What per-user pricing costs a growing shop

Electrical shops grow in steps: an apprentice, then a second journeyperson, then someone in the office. With per-user pricing, each hire raises your software bill. Here’s an illustrative example using Tradify’s published Pro rate of $51 USD per user per month (checked November 2026):

TeamUsersTradify Pro, monthly (USD)
Owner only1$51
Owner + apprentice2$102
Owner, 2 journeypersons, apprentice4$204
Above plus office manager5$255

That’s not a reason to avoid Tradify, which is good value for a solo electrician. It’s a reason to price the team you’ll have in two years, not the one you have today. Do the same for any tool on this list:

1
Count every login.

Electricians, apprentices, the office and seasonal help.

2
List the add-ons.

Call answering, marketing, website, extra users, payments.

3
Check the tier.

Job costing, change orders and checklists are often on a higher plan.

4
Run a real job.

Quote an EV charger with an optional load management device, then invoice it in stages.

Test it on a real job

In any trial, build a panel upgrade quote with two options, add a change order for an extra circuit, then send a progress invoice after rough-in. Ten minutes of that tells you more than any comparison page.

What is the best software for electricians?

It depends on your size. Small residential and light commercial shops usually shortlist Contruva, Jobber, Housecall Pro or Tradify; commercial firms with inventory and bid work look at simPRO; large residential operations look at ServiceTitan.

What is the best electrical contractor software for a small business?

Look for one app that handles calls, price-book quotes, permits on each job, change orders and progress invoices without per-user fees climbing as you hire. Contruva has one plan with no per-seat pricing; Tradify and Jobber are popular alternatives with published per-user or per-tier prices.

How much does electrical contractor software cost?

When we checked in November 2026, Jobber started at $49 USD a month, Housecall Pro at $59 to $79 USD, and Tradify at $47 USD per user. simPRO and ServiceTitan don’t publish prices. Contruva has one plan with no per-seat pricing.

Is there free software for electricians?

Some invoicing apps have free plans with limits, but none of the seven tools here is free. Most offer a free trial instead: 7 days for Contruva and 14 days for Jobber, Housecall Pro, Tradify and Fergus.

Can electrical software track permits and inspections?

Most job apps don’t file permits for you, but many let you keep the steps on the job. In Contruva, a job checklist holds the permit number, inspection dates and photos for rough-in and final.

Do I need separate estimating software for electrical work?

For residential and service work, price-book quoting in a job app is usually enough. For commercial bids off drawings, most contractors use a dedicated takeoff tool alongside their job management software.

Does electrical contractor software replace accounting software?

Usually not. Job apps like Contruva, Jobber and Tradify handle quotes, jobs and invoices, then sync to QuickBooks or Xero for your bookkeeping.
